Breast Enlargement or Breast Augmentation

Breast enlargement or breast augmentation at Dr. Henry's San Francisco Bay Area centers is a plastic surgery procedure that enhances the size and shape of a woman's breast. The result accentuates feminine beauty and produces a sensuous, sexy bust line. Likely candidates for breast augmentation at our plastic surgery centers include women who simply desire larger breasts, women with a moderate degree of breast sagging and smaller breasts whose problem can be solved by enlargement, and women who have one breast that is noticeably smaller than the other.

Breast augmentation, at our San Francisco Bay Area centers, involves making a small incision under the breast and inserting an implant of variable size, usually filled with saline solution (salt water), under the breast tissue or the underlying muscle. Dr. Henry will discuss other options for the location of the incision, such as around the nipple or even under the arm. Precise positioning of the implant perfects the shape and contour of the breast.

Breast augmentation, at our plastic surgery centers in the San Francisco Bay Area, is done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. The patient goes home in a comforting, elastic bra, which helps hold the breasts in the correct position. Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication. Sutures are usually removed in 7-12 days, and light activities can be resumed as tolerated. Aerobic activities can be resumed in about three weeks. Scars will usually fade in 6-12 months.

An additional plastic surgery procedure that may enhance breast enlargement or breast augmentation results is breast lift(mastopexy), particularly if the breasts have begun to sag.

Breast Lift

Breast lift at Dr. Henry's plastic surgery centers in the San Francisco Bay Area can restore the contour of the breasts to a more youthful, vivacious state, thereby erasing years off a woman's body by lifting and tightening breast tissue. Likely candidates who have sagging breasts due to past pregnancies, genetics, or aging should consider the breast lift procedure at our San Francisco Bay Area centers. Breast lift can also reduce sagging if it is too substantial to be treated with an implant alone or if the nipple-areolar complexes (pigmented areas around nipples) are enlarged.

Dr. Henry may provide several options for the placement of the incisions required for the breast lift procedure to accommodate individual needs at our San Francisco Bay Area centers. Generally, the incisions are placed around the nipple-areolar complex and in the crease under the breast. During breast lift surgery, excess skin is removed from around the nipple-areolar complex and from the bottom of the breast. The nipple-areolar complex is then usually repositioned higher. The insertion of an implant, as well, may or may not be advisable.

Breast lift surgery, at our San Francisco Bay Area offices, is done on an outpatient basis under sedation and local or general anesthesia. Patients go home in a bra with only light dressings over the incision lines. The bra is worn as a "dressing" for two to three weeks. As with the breast augmentation procedure, sutures are usually removed in two to three weeks. Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication. Light activities may be resumed in 7-10 days. Scars will usually fade in 6-12 months.

Additional plastic surgery procedures that may enhance breast lift results are breast reduction and breast augmentation.

BREAST REDUCTION

Breast reduction at Dr. Henry's San Francisco Bay Area centers can reshape breasts that are too large or disproportionate and can alleviate neck and back pain, reduce skin discomfort and irritation from bra straps, and eliminate self-consciousness. Women may consider breast reduction surgery if breast size causes breathing difficulties, poor posture, or interference with normal daily activities and exercise.

Incisions for breast reduction surgery, at our San Francisco Bay Area offices, are made around the nipple-areolar complex (the pigmented area) and extend vertically below the nipple and in the fold under the breast. During breast reduction surgery, excess breast tissue, fat and skin are removed where the incisions are made. The nipple-areolar complex may then be moved to create the desired natural-looking breast shape and contour.

Breast reduction surgery is performed at our San Francisco Bay Area centers under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis or in a hospital. Patients go home in a bra with only light dressings over the incision lines. The bra is worn as a "dressing" for two to three weeks. As with the breast lift procedure, sutures are usually removed in two to three weeks. Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication. Light activities may be resumed in 7-10 days. Scars will usually fade in 6-12 months.

An additional plastic surgery procedure that may enhance breast reduction results is liposuction of the axillary (armpit) area to reduce excess fat deposits.
