Dermabrasion or Facial Sanding
Dermabrasion or facial sanding is particularly effective in smoothing fine or deep wrinkles of the skin on the face. Facial sanding is also relied on to remove or reduce skin irregularities and to correct uneven skin surfaces resulting from scarring or acne.
Dermabrasion is usually done on an outpatient basis under local sedation and local or general anesthesia. The procedure involves using a tool with a small, rapidly spinning end, which has a roughened surface that removes inconsistencies of the skin. After the procedure, the patient goes home with the treated area covered with medicated ointment or a protective membrane. Facial sanding is relatively painless, and side effects are controlled easily with oral medication. The treated skin is usually "healed" within 5-7 days, at which time makeup may be applied. The redness of the skin fades gradually over a 2-3 month period.
Additional plastic surgery procedures that may enhance dermabrasion results are scar revision and dermabrasion of the upper and lower lips.

Injectable Dermal Implants
Injectable dermal implants are a popular solution to a wide variety of facial contour defects from lip augmentation to plumping up depressed scars. Often used as tissue replacement for victims of serious accidents, injectable dermal implants are very effective in cosmetic surgery procedures such as lip augmentation and scar removal.
Dr. Henry will discuss several procedural and material options that may suit your individual needs. Injectable dermal implant procedures and results vary depending on which you choose.

Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser skin rejuvenation is a revolutionary procedure designed to revitalize the skin so that it looks more youthful, even-colored, and supple. Dr. Henry's laser skin resurfacing procedure removes the superficial layers of the skin with a pulsed laser, which smoothes away facial wrinkles, slight scarring, and age spots. The advantage of laser skin resurfacing is that the depth of treatment is extremely controlled and predictable.
Laser skin rejuvenation procedure is usually done on an outpatient basis under local sedation and local or general anesthesia. You will be sent home with specific written instructions for post-op care. Depending on the location, the treated areas are covered with bandages or ointment. Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication. Healing will be complete in 7-10 days, after which makeup may be applied.

Dr. Kimberly Henry offers many solutions for the removal of unsightly, large or discolored scars. Dr. Henry will discuss your options and help you choose the technique that will give you the best results.
Scar repair and revision are usually performed under local anesthesia. If the scars are large or if the patient prefers, the procedure may be done under sedation and local or general anesthesia. The procedure generally involves surgically removing the old scar and then repairing the revised area with one of several techniques including dermal injections, dermabrasion and laser skin resurfacing.
Scar repair and revision are almost always performed on an outpatient basis. Postoperative pain is usually minimal. Depending on the location, sutures are removed within 4-10 days, and discoloring fades within 6-24 months.
Additional plastic surgery procedures that may enhance scar repair results are Z-plasty (a surgical method of releasing tight or contracted scars), dermabrasion, and laser skin resurfacing.
