Beautiful Rhinoplasty, Facelift & More at Dr. Henry's San Francisco Bay Area Centers
Our faces are a reflection of who we are. They display our feelings, thoughts, moods, and unfortunately, our ages. As we grow older, those lines that develop on our foreheads and above our noses make us appear tired, sad, or angry. Droopy, puffy eyelids make us look much older than we truly are. Sun exposure, weight fluctuation, and the natural aging process loosen skin, resulting in wrinkles and jowls. Dr. Henry knows that having a youthful, refreshed appearance and smooth, rejuvenated skin can take years, even decades off our faces, drastically reducing the effects of aging.
We offer a full range of facial plastic surgery procedures at our San Francisco Bay Area centers, which are designed to boost your self-confidence and to beautify your skin. Some of the available options include rhinoplasty (nose reshaping), facelift, blepharoplasty (eyelid lift), and cheek implants. Below is a complete listing of the cosmetic surgery procedures we offer.

- Cheek Implants
- Chin Enlargement
- Ear Pinning

Cheek implants create a more prominent cheek contour for patients with small or subtle cheek tissue and cheekbone curves resulting from aging or an inherited characteristic.
Cheek implant procedures involve making a small incision inside the upper lip, in the lower eyelid, or in the hairline and inserting a biologically correct, pre-shaped implant next to the bone. The cheek implant is held in place by the normal tissues that surround it. The selection of incision will be discussed at the time of consultation.
The cheek implant procedure is done on an outpatient basis under attended local or general anesthesia. Postoperative procedure usually requires no dressings. Initial swelling is moderate and gradually disappears over a month or two. Discomfort is mild to moderate and is controlled with oral medications. Depending on their location, sutures will dissolve or be removed in 4-10 days.
Additional plastic surgery procedures that may enhance cheek implant results are other facial cosmetic procedures such as facelift, blepharoplasty (eyelid lift), forehead lift, rhinoplasty (nose reshaping), and chin augmentation.

Chin enlargement or chin augmentation is perfect for those desiring increased chin prominence. If you have a small, receding chin or a chin that is disproportionate to other facial features, chin enlargement will create an improved profile and a more attractive jaw line that enhances better facial balance.
During chin enlargement, an incision is made inside the lower lip or under the chin. Next, a biologically correct, pre-shaped implant is precisely placed to perfect the facial profile. In an alternative method called sliding osteotomy, a portion of the chin bone is permanently moved forward.
Chin enlargement procedure is done on an outpatient basis under sedation and local or general anesthesia. The patient goes home with a small pressure dressing over the chin. Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication. Swelling, tenderness, and possible local numbness gradually subside within a month or two.
Additional plastic surgery procedures at our San Francisco Bay area centers that may enhance chin enlargement results are liposuction of the neck, rhinoplasty (nose reshaping), neck lift, and laser skin resurfacing.

Otoplasty or Ear Pinning
Otoplasty, or ear pinning, is especially helpful for those who have ears that have an unusual, undesirable shape or that stick out too far from the side of the head. Dr. Henry's ear pinning technique will restore the normal folds and shape, and reposition the ears for the most flattering effect.
The ear pinning procedure is appropriate for patients age five or six and above. Otoplasty is performed by making incisions in the back of the ear. It may be necessary to remodel or remove some cartilage before the ear is reshaped. Sutures are then used to maintain the correction. The exterior skin is sutured and the ears are bandaged for several days to protect them in their new position.
The procedure is done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. Initial mild postoperative discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication. The ears will achieve the desired look within 10-20 days. Usually, a thin stocking cap or headband is worn for three weeks after the first dressing is removed to protect the ears at night. Contact sports should be avoided for about a month.

Blepharoplasty or Eyelid Lift
Eyelid lift offers dramatic results, creating a more youthful and energetic appearance of the eyes. If you have excessively sagging upper or lower eyelid skin or you have lost your natural upper eyelid crease, eyelid lift will remove the excess skin around the eyes to reveal a younger, more rested look.
The incisions for an eyelid lift are made where the natural crease should be in the upper lids and below the lash line in the lower lids. Excess fat and skin are then removed. If only excess fat is present in the lower lids, it may be removed through a cosmetic surgery procedure called transconjunctival blepharoplasty, which involves making an incision inside the lower lids; the procedure results in no external incision or scar.
The eyelid lift operation is done on an outpatient basis under sedation and local or general anesthesia. All sutures are usually removed within 4-6 days. Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication. Bruising and sensitivity to light last at least a week or two. Swelling progressively disappears over several weeks. Eye makeup can be used shortly after sutures are removed. Contact lenses can be worn when comfortable - usually within 7-10 days.

Facelift produces a more rested and youthful contour of the face and neck. If you have experienced a loss of skin elasticity and muscle tone of the face and neck, facelift surgery will smooth any wrinkles or deep creases and eliminate excess skin and jowls.
Facelifts range in size from "mini" to "standard," depending on location and extent of skin laxity. Incisions are made within the hairline (or along the hair margin) above the ear; they typically extend down around the lobe and end in or below the hairline behind the ear. The subcutaneous layers and neck muscles are tightened, the facial skin is lifted, and the excess skin is removed.
The facelift operation is done on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia with sedation or under general anesthesia. Facelift patients go home with their head and neck wrapped in dressings, which are usually removed the next day. Minimal initial discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication. Sutures are removed within 14 days. Bruising and swelling decrease to "socially acceptable" levels in 10-20 days. The final result is evident in 4-6 weeks or sooner with continued improvement for several months.
Additional plastic surgery procedures at our San Francisco Bay area centers that may enhance facelift results are eyelid lift, forehead lift, chemical peel, facial sanding (dermabrasion), chin enlargement, nose reshaping ( rhinoplasty), liposuction, laser skin resurfacing, cheekbone enhancement, lip augmentation/enhancement, and reduction of earlobes.

Forehead lift is very effective for eliminating frown lines or sagging forehead skin and brows. It produces a more youthful and rested appearance for the forehead, upper eyelids, and as a result, the entire countenance.
The forehead lift procedure begins with an incision starting near the ear and running across the top of your head either behind or at the hairline. The forehead skin is lifted up and excess skin is removed. Sometimes, all or part of the forehead muscles are removed to reduce the formation of wrinkles and creases in the future. The incision is then closed with stitches or metal clips.
Forehead lift is done on an outpatient basis under IV sedation. The patient goes home with his or her head wrapped in dressings, which are usually removed on the first or second day after surgery. Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication. Sutures are usually removed in 10 days. Most swelling and bruising disappear in 7-10 days.
Additional plastic surgery procedures at our San Francisco Bay area centers that may enhance the result of the forehead lift are Lower and/or Upper eyelid lift, facelift, or other facial cosmetic surgery procedures or implants.

Jaw enlargement can be considered by anyone who feels that his or her jaw width is too narrow or who wants a more square or robust look to his or her face or jaw line.
During the jaw enlargement operation, an incision is made in the mucous membranes near the wisdom teeth. Next, biologically correct implants are carefully placed, and the incision is then simply closed. A puncture through the skin over the jaw may be necessary if the implants are fixed in place with screws. During your initial consultation, Dr. Henry will help you determine how much augmentation you need to achieve desired results.
Jaw enlargement procedure is done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. The patient recuperates at home. There is usually moderate swelling for the first 7-10 days. Because of the location of the incisions, the mouth needs to be kept free of food particles and debris during the postoperative period - otherwise, infections can develop.
Additional plastic surgery procedures at our San Francisco Bay area centers that may enhance your jaw enlargement results are cheek implants, chin enlargement, rhinoplasty (nose reshaping), or blepharoplasty (eyelid lift).

Rhinoplasty or Nose Reshaping
Rhinoplasty, or nose reshaping, is a technique mastered at our San Francisco Bay Area centers that modifies the size and shape of the nose to become more cosmetically attractive or so that it "fits" better with other facial features. Rhinoplasty is also particularly helpful to correct breathing problems or nasal obstructions caused by birth defects, injury, or disease.
During the rhinoplasty procedure at our San Francisco Bay Area clinics, the skin of the nose is separated allowing access to the cartilage and bone, which is then sculpted into the desired shape by increasing or decreasing the bridge, changing the angle, narrowing the nostrils or reshaping the tip. Internal problems, such as breathing obstructions can also be remedied at this point. Dr. Henry will discuss the several types of rhinoplasty during your consultation to determine which will fit your specific needs.
The rhinoplasty procedure is done on an outpatient basis at our San Francisco Bay Area centers, under sedation and local or general anesthesia. The patient goes home with an external cast or splint in place. The nose may be packed for 24-48 hours. The cast or splint is usually removed in 7-10 days. Initial discomfort is controlled with oral medication. The majority of swelling and bruising subsides progressively over 2-4 weeks. Semifinal results are evident in 3 months. Final results are evident in 12-14 months, which is how long complete tissue softening typically takes.
An additional plastic surgery procedure at our San Francisco Bay area centers that may enhance the rhinoplasty result is chin enlargement. If you need to improve breathing, correction of a deviated septum (Septoplasty) may also be appropriate.

Permanent Lip Enlargement
Permanent lip enlargement is highly recommended if you desire larger or fuller lips. Permanent lip enlargement creates fuller lips without the need for repetitive treatments, such as those necessary to preserve the results of collagen injections or fat transfer procedures.
Permanent lip enlargement involves taking a piece of tissue from somewhere in the body (determined by Dr. Henry) and grafting it into one or both lips. A short incision is made in the corner of each lip. Then a tunnel is shaped under the fleshy part of the lip and the graft is pulled through and anchored at each end. Finally, sutures are inserted to close the incisions. Dr. Henry will discuss the alternatives and assist in choosing the best source of tissue graft for you. Less permanent methods involving dermal injections are available and will be discussed by Dr. Henry.
Permanent lip enlargement is performed on an outpatient basis at our San Francisco Bay area centers and can be done with local anesthesia only, although the use of sedation plus local or general anesthesia will make the operation much easier to tolerate. The lips are noticeably swollen for a week or two. Sutures are removed in about a week and lip sensation is usually returns to normal after the initial healing.
Additional plastic surgery procedures at our San Francisco Bay area centers that may enhance permanent lip enlargement results are facelift, rhinoplasty, cheek implants, eyelid lift, and forehead lift.
