Despite how often you go to the gym or how many days you perfectly track your meals, some areas of your body are resistant to fat loss. The abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, and even the area beneath your chin are all examples of these stubborn sections.

The abdomen, hips, buttocks, and even the area beneath your chin are all examples of these stubborn sections.

What Areas Can Liposuction Address?

Liposuction is a highly versatile procedure that can treat several problem areas.

Face and Neck

Face and Neck

While most people are familiar with liposuction being performed on the body, liposuction is also a valuable tool to fight stubborn fat in the face and neck.

Liposuction can remove unwanted fat in the cheeks, neck, and submental area (beneath the chin) to create a more contoured facial appearance.

Upper Body

Upper Body

Many individuals suffer from loose, fatty arms (bat wings), unflattering fat deposits on the chest, and bulging back fat. These undesirable contours can negatively affect your appearance, even in loose-fitting clothing.

Liposuction can remove these troublesome fat deposits and create a more appealing silhouette throughout the upper body.

Midsection

Midsection

Because men and women often carry excess fat in their tummies, waists, and hips, these areas are the most common targets for liposuction treatment.

In many cases, diet and exercise cannot effectively reduce fat in these areas, and liposuction provides an excellent option for creating more slender curves in the midsection.

Lower Body

Lower Body

Recontouring areas on the lower part of the body, such as the buttocks, thighs, knees, calves, and ankles, are less commonly treated with liposuction than the midsection. However, these smaller areas can significantly impact one’s overall appearance.

If you have an otherwise slim figure, unsightly fat in the ankles or calves can lead to unbalanced body proportions and a heavier, bulkier aesthetic.

Liposuction Techniques

  • Traditional Liposuction

Traditional liposuction is typically performed under general anesthesia so that you will feel no pain or discomfort during your procedure. Tiny incisions are made near the treatment area and are so small they usually heal on their own without sutures. A small tube called a cannula is attached to a medical vacuum device and inserted into the targeted locations to loosen the unwanted fat, which is then suctioned out.

  • High-Definition Liposuction

High-definition liposuction is very similar to traditional liposuction and uses power sculpt technology. The only difference is that high-definition liposuction focuses on highlighting muscle groups and contours throughout the body to produce a more defined figure or physique. Generally, high-definition liposuction is only performed on active patients who have well-developed muscles beneath the stubborn fat. This procedure will also be performed under general anesthesia.

  • Combining Liposuction With Other Procedures

Comprehensive improvements in body shape and tone can be achieved by addressing skin laxity, other aesthetic concerns, and extra body fat. Many patients maximize the benefits of their liposuction procedure by combining it with other cosmetic surgeries like a tummy tuck or an arm lift. Women often combine cosmetic breast surgery like a breast augmentation or a breast lift with liposuction for a complete Mommy Makeover. While more extensive procedures require more extensive recoveries, most patients feel the results far outweigh the cost.

Recovery From Liposuction

After your liposuction procedure, you can expect swelling and bruising to occur, but this should subside significantly by the end of the first week and entirely in about a month. A compression garment will be placed on the treated area to support your new contours and minimize swelling.

You should be able to return to work within one to two weeks, depending on the extent of your procedure. However, you will be instructed to avoid all strenuous activities for at least six weeks or until Dr. Henry clears you.

Following our surgeon’s postoperative instructions are essential to achieving the best results. You can experience a positive recovery by preparing in advance. Set up a comfortable resting spot with all you’ll need within arm’s reach and pre-cook a week’s worth of healthy meals you can reheat during recovery. Take any prescribed pain medications as directed.

If discomfort increases or you notice anything unexpected, please call our office immediately.

Your Liposuction Results

It takes about a month to fully appreciate your liposuction results, which include a more slender and fit appearance. These results are typically long-lasting, but a proper exercise routine and a healthy diet are necessary to maintain them. Significant weight fluctuations can adversely affect your final outcome.

Liposuction and Scars

Dr. Henry takes great care to place incisions in inconspicuous locations at or near the treatment areas whenever performing surgery so they can be easily concealed. However, liposuction incisions are so small that scars are rarely a major concern. Any scars that do form will likely fade nicely over time as long as they are protected from the sun.

Cost of Liposuction

Many factors determine the final cost of liposuction. Because cosmetic surgery is always customized to meet our patient’s needs, the best way to learn the price of your procedure is to schedule a consultation.

Dr. Henry is committed to making sure your liposuction treatment is affordable. For this reason, we offer both CareCredit® and ALPHAEON® financing, and we can help you file all the necessary paperwork.

Liposuction FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

  • Am I a good candidate for liposuction?

Ideal candidates interested in liposuction should be in good health and have realistic expectations for their results. If you smoke, you will also be asked to stop for a few weeks before and after your procedure. Dr. Henry will also explain that patients who are at or close to their ideal weight will achieve the most desirable results.

  • What type of anesthesia will be used for my liposuction procedure?

Liposuction is usually performed under general anesthesia as a less-invasive surgical procedure on an outpatient basis.

  • How many areas can I receive liposuction on at one time?

Dr. Henry can easily perform liposuction on two or three areas in a single surgery. However, it’s best to stay in the same general area (face and neck or body). She will be able to answer your questions about the number of areas she can treat at one time during your consultation. You can also combine other procedures with liposuction for comprehensive results.

  • Are there any risks or side effects involved with liposuction?

As with most surgical procedures, there are some risks involved with liposuction. These include:

    • Infection
    • Bleeding
    • Fluid accumulation
    • Poor wound healing
    • Worsening of cellulite

By not smoking, avoiding alcohol, and closely following Dr. Henry’s instructions, you can greatly reduce your chances of experiencing complications.
